FREE WEBINAR ON THE TOPIC:
An analysis of industry investment projects, latest research, new technologies, and practical solutions for terminal modernisation. Discussion on integrating transport modes, multimodal shipping, and the role of terminals in supply chains.
Transport and logistics terminals play a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Russian economy, serving as vital hubs for the transportation of goods and raw materials within the country and beyond.
RELEVANCE:
Russia has a developed system of transport and logistics terminals, which provides an effective infrastructure for the transportation of goods within the country and internationally. Today, there are more than 1,500 key transport and logistics terminals operating in Russia, including container, intermodal, railway and sea warehouses.
The main transport and logistics hubs are located in key regions of the country, such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok, which allows for effective connections between the European part of Russia and the Far East and other regions.
Terminals play an important role in the structure of Russia's transport system, helping to speed up and optimise transport. Foreign and domestic experts note that modern automated terminals account for about 40% of the total volume of logistics operations.
The development of transport and logistics infrastructure is a strategic priority for Russia. This is reflected in government programmes and initiatives aimed at modernising existing terminals, creating multimodal transport hubs, developing special economic zones in logistics, and introducing digital technologies to improve terminal efficiency by 2030. Particular attention is being paid to the implementation of projects such as the Russian Transport Strategy and the National Logistics Project.
DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS:

Increase in the capacity of transport and logistics centres (TLCs). According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, by 2030, the capacity of TLCs in Russia will exceed 18 million TEU (20-foot equivalent units), which is a 2.5-fold increase compared to the current level (7.5 million TEU).

Growth in the share of containerised cargo in total Russian Railways (RZhD) shipments. It is expected that by the mid-2030s, the share of containers in total RZhD shipments will reach 15–20%, this process will be most active in the transport of export and import cargo, but containerisation will gradually penetrate domestic Russian transport as well.

The introduction of the GosLog System in stages from 2024 to 2028—a unified digital space for all participants in the logistics chain. The platform combines 12 digital services that ensure interaction between participants in the logistics market and government agencies.
KEY MARKET PLAYERS INITIATIVES:
Development of a network of 11 railway transport logistics centres with a capacity of more than65 million DFE per year in the regions of Russia. The volume of investment in the project is estimated at 120 billion roubles. The centres will be located from central Russia to the Far East, with plans to launch centres in Primorsky Krai and Kemerovo region in the future.
Investments in the construction of a new sea terminal at the Bronka Port will amount to257 billion roubles. The project will be completed by 2034.
The construction of the Yekaterinburg Transport and Logistics Centre (TLC) is estimated at 13 billion roubles. It is planned to create a container and trailer terminal, a terminal for large and heavy cargo, a wheeled vehicle terminal, a universal warehouse complex, and customs zones on the territory. The annual throughput capacity of the TLC is estimated at 6.1 million tonnes of cargo by 2030 and up to 10 million tonnes by 2035.
The Far East and Arctic Development Corporation and Sukhodol Sea Port LLC are celebrating the rapid development of the container terminal construction project, where specialised Liebherr-420 cranes are being installed to handle various types of containers. The investment amounts to approximately $783 million.
The terminal in the Murmansk region will consist of two deep-water berths designed to accommodate container ships with a capacity of up to 6,000 TEU. Its tasks will include transshipment of cargo from specialised ice-class container ships to non-ice-class vessels and vice versa. The terminal is scheduled to be commissioned in.
